2core & 4GB RAM - VM Performance

The tests were performed on an average machine with 2 cores and 4GB of RAM. The machines were running 64-bit version of Cent OS 6, installed from scratch each time without only critical processes running. Those were very simplistic tests to get performance of bare machine without any networking component involved.

Multi-thread CPU test:
  • Processing 10,000 events
  • Number of threads: 4
  • Performing calculations on prime numbers up to 20000
Memory test factors:
  • Processing 10,240 events
  • Number of threads: 1
  • Memory block size: 1K
  • Memory transfer size of 1024M
  • Memory operations type: write
  • Memory scope type: global
Disk I/O benchmarks

Was based on maximum random read/write during 300 seconds. The storage utilized was the most common available SAN storage.

  • Number of threads: 1
  • Block size 16Kb
  • File size: 160 Mb
  • Read/Write ratio for combined random IO test: 1.50
  • Periodic FSYNC enabled, calling fsync() each 100 requests
  • Using synchronous I/O mode

The slides below summarize the results of the tests for each category mentioned above.
